XFL commissioner Oliver Luck was asked about Colin Kaepernick playing in the league during an interview with NPR over the weekend.
The 32-year-old former NFL quarterback has expressed a desire to resume his playing career and the XFL is obviously looking for talent.
Luck confirmed they gave signing Kaepernick some thought over a year ago but the salary requirements were too steep. When pressed, he confirmed the XFL spoke with his representative and the salary requirements were “exorbitant and certainly out of our range.”
When asked if the XFL would consider signing Kaepernick if his salary requirements were reasonable, Luck responded:
”I don’t know. That was well over a year ago, so I don’t know what kind of shape, you know, Colin is in. And, you know, we haven’t followed that because obviously, again, we want the best players who are interested in playing in our league. That’s, you know, pretty much a requisite for our job.”
For reference, the average salary for an XFL player is approximately $55,000.
