There was a discussion within the front office of the Indianapolis Colts about placing quarterback Andrew Luck on injured reserve to postpone a final decision about his career, reports Ed Werder.
According to the report, the thinking was the Colts would give Luck a chance to regain his health but he ultimately decided he was finished.
Luck blamed his retirement on a constant cycle of injury and rehab, revealing that he vowed to never get in the cycle of being in pain only to rehab ever again. He made his decision after failing to make progress on his injured ankle.
The Colts will go into Week 1 with Jacoby Brissett as their starting quarterback with Swag Kelly as his backup. Kelly will not be eligible to play until Week 3 as he has to serve a two-game suspension.
