Mahomes Injury Update – Out At Least 3 Weeks

The results for Patrick Mahomes MRI came back and are the best case scenario for Kansas City. James Palmer and Ian Rapoport broke the news.

This best case scenario is a dislocated patella, aka knee cap. The MRI showed no significant additional damage.

This is fantastic news for the Chiefs as Mahomes is only expected to miss about 3 weeks. If there were additional ligament damage, Mahomes would have missed the rest of the season.

When Mahomes returns he will likely be wearing a knee brace. His ability to extend plays with his legs will be limited as he would be prone to re-injuring his knee. He may need surgery but it is doubtful it would happen until the season ends.

Look for backup Matt Moore to fill in while Mahomes is healing up.

Fantasy Take:

I expect Kansas City to use this time to focus on their running game. LeSean McCoy is emerging as their primary back and will likely benefit the most here. TE Travis Kelce will be Moore’s security blanket and will keep his top 5 value. Downgrade all Chiefs wide receivers until the reigning MVP returns.
