Patriots To Activate And Release TE Benjamin Watson

The Patriots plan to activate and release TE Benjamin Watson, reports Mike Reiss.

While there is always a chance the team could opt to bring him back, the move will save them $2 million against the salary cap.

Watson, 38, was suspended the first four games of the 2019 season due to a PED violation. He was eligible to return in Week 5 and practiced but the Patriots did not add him to the roster in time to face the Redskins.

The Pats will move forward with Matt LaCosse and Ryan Izzo as their tight ends.
