Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Breeland Speaks will not play this season due to a torn ACL suffered in the preseason that landed him on injured reserve. However, the NFL has suspended him for the next four weeks.
While the league didn’t announce a reason for the suspension, sources indicate the ban is due to violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.
The Chiefs issued the following statement:
“The NFL notified the Kansas City Chiefs of Breeland Speaks’ four-game suspension,” the statement read. “We will have no comment at this time.”
Last season, Speaks finished with 24 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. He has two years remaining on his rookie contract, which leaves him in KC through 2021.
