Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton practiced on Sunday, according to Bill Roth.
Newton, 30, suffered a mid-foot sprain in his left foot during the Panthers’ preseason Week 3 game. He left the stadium in a walking boot, which was precautionary.
Since the injury, the Panthers downplayed it with head coach Ron Rivera saying he had “no doubt” Newton would be ready for Week 1.
Newton played in a career-low 14 games last season when he completed 67.9% of his passes for 3395 yards and 24 touchdowns to go with 13 interceptions. He added 488 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.
The Panthers will play the Rams at home next Sunday in Week 1.
