Jaguars Fire Executive Vice President Tom Coughlin

The Jacksonville Jaguars have released executive vice president Tom Coughlin. He was in his third season in the position.

Coughlin served as the franchise’s first head coach from 1995-2002, before returning in an executive role.

Coughlin’s termination comes following an arbitrator ruling against the Jaguars and the NFLPA indicating in a statement that nearly a quarter of player grievances over the past two years have been against Jacksonville. The union urged players to avoid signing with the Jags as free agents.

Owner Shad Khan has said he would evaluate Coughlin’s employment at year’s end but the timeline was obviously accelerated. For now, general manager Dave Caldwell and head coach Doug Marrone will report directly to Khan.
