Jay Gruden Names RB Derrius Guice Week 1 Starter; Peterson A Healthy Scratch?

Redskins head coach Jay Gruden confirmed to reporters on Thursday that running back Derrius Guice will be the team’s starter Week 1 against the Eagles and hinted RB Adrian Peterson could be a healthy scratch, according to Mike Jones.

Gruden hasn’t decided whether to dress two or three more running backs. He would not say if Peterson is the odd man out, as he’s still trying to decide.

Guice, 22, missed all of last season because of a torn ACL. The Redskins selected him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of LSU. His stock has rose significantly throughout training camp and the preseason.
