The NFL contacted free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick and his representatives on Tuesday morning about a staging a workout for him on Saturday in Atlanta.
One of the reasons the NFL would not budge on the time, date or location of the workout is they wanted to hold it at a team facility. The best option was in Atlanta on Saturday when the Falcons will have left for their Week 11 game against the Carolina Panthers.
The session is in response to teams reaching out to the league with interest in signing Kaepernick. Given the workout is late in the season, it may create a chance for Kaepernick to get a six-week audition for team with an eye towards 2020. This will also accommodate clubs that do not have have a spot for him this year but will have the chance to gather more data before a possible signing for next season.
The following teams have committed to attend the workout per NFL.com:
- Arizona Cardinals
- Atlanta Falcons
- Cleveland Browns
- Denver Broncos
- Detroit Lions
- Miami Dolphins
- New England Patriots
- New York Giants
- New York Jets
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Washington Redskins
