Saints QB Drew Brees is believed to have a ligament issue on his throwing thumb, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

The team will know the full extent of the injury some time today but he’s looking at missing some time.

We had the story, Brees saw a specialist in Los Angeles following the Saints’ Week 2 loss against the Rams. He admitted in comments to the media he was concerned and hoped the injury was not too significant.

Brees, 40, left the game in the first quarter and did not return. He was seen on the sideline attempting to grip a ball but unable to do so. The thumb was wrapped and he was replaced by backup signal caller Teddy Bridgewater.

Brees has spent his last 12 seasons in New Orleans and is entering the final year of a two-year, $50 million contract that includes $27 million guaranteed.
