Wide receiver Antonio Callaway has been waived by the Cleveland Browns for conduct detrimental to the team.
Callaway started the season on a 4 game substance abuse suspension. He was inactive last week for team conduct stemming from being late on game day. Now he is facing another substance abuse suspension, this time for 10 games.
The wide receiver had his appeal hearing last week and argued that he had taken a tainted CBD product. The league is known to being strict about players being aware of what they take. Callaway’s suspension does not have much chance to be overturned.
The Cleveland Browns have a considerable history with extremely talented players who have off off the field issues. Josh Gordon is at the top of that list. His tenure in Cleveland was full of well documented highs and lows. Now it looks like Gordon is getting his best chance at redemption in Seattle.
Antonio Callaway is the most recent player that fits this profile. As of now it seems he is at his professional low. He is a considerable talent and will get another shot. It will be up to Callaway to mature and do the most with it.
