Chargers Could Bench Philip Rivers For Tyrod Taylor

The Los Angeles Chargers may bench quarterback Philip Rivers for Tyrod Taylor if his poor play continues.

The 4-7 Chargers face the 3-8 Broncos in Denver on Sunday and if Rivers’ play warrants, he could get pulled from the game. The Chargers may need to win out to make the playoffs and Rivers has thrown seven interceptions over the past two games. Los Angeles lost both games.

The team is cognizant that the interceptions aren’t all Rivers’ fault and there won’t be one factor or outcome that leads to his benching. Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said earlier this week he doesn’t believe it’s a decision he’ll have to make.

“I don’t plan on having to make that decision,” Lynn said this week h/t NFL.com. “I plan on us going and playing our tails off this weekend and getting back in that win column. … Most great athletes, they respond well. I believe Philip is going to respond well.”
