Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera stated on Tuesday there’s “no doubt” in his mind that quarterback Cam Newton will be ready for Week 1, reports Joe Person.
Newton, 30, suffered a mid-foot sprain in his left foot during last Thursday’s preseason game against the New England Patriots. He left the stadium in a walking boot, which is now seen as a precautionary move.
Cam worked off to the side at Monday’s practice and was not dressed for drills, according to David Newton.
Newton played in a career-low 14 games last season when he completed 67.9% of his passes for 3395 yards and 24 touchdowns to go with 13 interceptions. He added 488 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.
The Panthers will play the Rams at home in Week 1.
