Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney planned to report to the team this week until he found out the team wanted to trade him, reports Ian Rapoport.
Clowney, the former first overall pick, was originally set to report after Week 3 of the preseason but now, no when knows when or if he will report.
The situation has unraveled in succession.
First, it was reported Clowney wanted out of Houston and preferred to play for the Eagles or Seahawks, per Aaron Wilson. He then fired his agent Bus Cook due to frustration over his situation.
Now, the Miami Dolphins have emerged as the favorites to land Clowney and he’s already met with Dolphins coach Brian Flores. According to multiple reports, that meeting went well.
Pieces are still being discussed between Houston and Miami but it’s known Miami won’t part with offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil just like Houston won’t part with a first round pick. Clowney has not yet signed his franchise tender, giving him leverage as to where he ends up.
Clowney, 26, was selected first overall in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. He’s set to play the 2019 season on a one-year $16 million tender.
